Cheb Mami
The global hit single "Desert Rose" marked the first duet between a Western pop star and a RaÔ singer, and the combination of Sting and Cheb Mami was the coming together of two major talents. By then Mami was already an international star, staking his claim with 1991's Prince of RaÔ, then cementing his position with several other records, including Meli Meli, whose single, "Parisien Du Nord" made him a star in his adopted homeland of France. On 2001's Dellali he continued his trademark mixing of roots raÔ with funk, flamenco, reggae, and rock, expanding the music's lexicon in breathtaking fashion.
